Number and place value is all about what numbers mean, we look at what we can do with numbers, what numbers are capable of, what different digits mean, and also different types of digits. This is where children learn how to write numbers, how to spell numbers in written form and what different vocabulary they're going to be faced with across the mathematics topic. Children will be taught how to count forwards and backwards, they will be taught that numbers can look different; like Roman numerals, but also that numbers can have patterns. They will learn things like when multiple digits are put together, they mean different things. We will talk about partitioning, number bonds, skip counting, rounding and many more. This topic is probably the easiest topic for children to master across the mathematics subject. We will now go into details of each of the of the headings that we can find within number and place value.
